Game started even enough with both teams having the odd half chance before Downpatrick took lead midway through first half.
The Swifts hit back straight away and equalised through Patrick Harkin with a smart drive from edge of box.
The home team took the lead almost immediately with a ball over the top to their pacey striker, Ben, who finished well.
They added two late in the half to take a commanding lead.
Glenn Bennett gave United hope with a strong header from a Harkin free kick.
Swifts had a McMenamin goal disallowed for offside from another free kick, The Swifts argued their case with the referee but the decision stood.
Downpatrick went up the other end to score.
They added a penalty before Gareth Bingham reduced the arrears but Downpatrick would add another before the end to seal a comfortable win for the home side.
