Match Report: Shorts FC 2 – 2 Ballynahinch United

Ballynahinch United landed at Aircraft Park for their first league game of the season.

United started the better side, just failing to find the killer touch. Shorts were limited to long range opportunities while Gregg Allison tortured the home side’s defence.

After 30 minutes, Shorts made the break through, a pass that evaded defenders and attackers finally slipped through to the back post for the home team to take the lead.

Ballynahinch got off to a flyer after the break when Robbie Lurring’s cross-come-shot looped into the net for the equaliser.

From then, United controlled the game and finally went ahead when Graeme McMullan was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. David Kelly cooly slotted it home.

The Ballynahinch defence stood strong, led by Ethan Majury until Shorts launched a free kick from deep into the box late on. After a goalmouth scramble, the ball landed in United’s net.

A great performance from Ballynahinch that likely deserved more than just one point.
