Match Report: Aquinas FC 2 – 0 BUFC

United travelled to Rathmore Grammar School for the second time this season to face promotion pushers, Aquinas FC. The previous fixture between the pair here finished 2 – 1 to Aquinas FC in the Border Cup in horrifc weather conditions, and this week the weather was no different.

United dressed in blue and black battled hard against Aquinas in green with the wind and rain swirling across the 4G pitch making playing conditions difficult.

Both teams were evenly match with United probably edging the possession percentages with United’s defence, marshalled by veteran Scott Brashaw and Alan Patterson – who was a colossus all day – able to hold the home side at bay.

However, Aquinas finally found the decisive breakthrough. With Alan in the Aquinas box ready to attack United’s set piece, a quick break found the defence short at the back and unable to recover before Aquinas swept the ball into the net to give the home side the lead.

United continued to battle on against their opposition and the weather, but were unable to test the keeper significantly.

Aquinas took advantage and soon doubled their lead when a low cross evaded the Blue defence and was finished by an Aquinas attacker at the back post.

United continued to control possession but time soon ran out on finding the goals needed to claim a point.
