Ballyvea 3rds 0 v 1 Ballynahinch United 3rds

A few weeks ago there was doubts regarding whether the Albion would have enough players to compete this season so when they took the field on Saturday it was a relief to everyone at the club.

When they returned from Ballyvea on Saturday after securing a 1 – 0 win and all three points everyone at the club was delighted and full of praise for the team that made the trip.

The Albion’s first goal of the season was scored by Lewis Lowey and the team management were full of praise for each and everyone of the players in the team that was captained by veteran Ian Blackwood.

2nds & 3rds Management positions filled

United have moved to fill the vacancy of 2nd team manager with club stalwart Davy Teggarty moving up to take on the role. In addition the club has decided to move its second team from the NAFL to the Newcastle & District League Division 2.

Ian Blackwood has also been appointed to take on the role of 3rd team manager. Neither of the 2nds or 3rds start their league campaigns until early September and the club is on the lookout for additional players. Anyone interested should come along to the club on either Tuesday or Thursday night training or make yourself known to either of the managers or any of the club officials.

Club Notes

The Swifts and The Albion were both in action at the weekend. The Swifts travelled to Bryansburn Rangers and continued their good form securing a point in a drawn game with McCaffrey scoring their goal.

Alan Massey continued his good form for The Albion scoring from the penalty spot for the second successive Saturday however they were unable to get back into winning ways.

The committee and members would like to express their thanks to Ian Blackwood of IB Electrical for ther generous sponsorship which is very much appreciated.

It was also great to see former player Michael Jones in attendance at Saturday’s game. Michael who is living and working in Melbourne, Australia was home recently for a family wedding and returned down under yesterday. He is playing football in one of the Victorian Leagues and secured the league championships with his team and by all accounts they are going well this season again.
