Ballynahinch welcomed league leaders to The Millbridge on a rare sunny Saturday.
It was a depleted squad with United missing multiple players through suspension, childcare and holiday. Nonetheless, United were the better team in the opening 20 minutes, playing out from the back despite the bumpy surface.
Disaster struck though when within half an hour, the home side were forced into three substitutions through injuries with Thomas Rodgers, Graeme McMullan and George McCartney, making his first-team debut after transferring from West Ham, taken off.
Will McNeill was one of the replacements also making his first-team debut.
St Matthews took advantage of the disruption to the United line up and took the lead 5 minutes before the half time whistle.
United looked to counter in the second half but fell further behind.
A fourth injury forced United down to 10 men for the remainder of the game when David Kelly went down after injuring his knee. Before being replaced, Kelly had put in an excellent tenacious performance alongside Stuart McMullan
The away side struck a fourth from long-range to complete the scoring.
It was a good, battling performance from Ballynahinch despite the injury adversities. We wish a speedy recovery to all our injured players.
